The Leading Edge Partnership Programme The Leading Edge programme is all about schools working together in innovative ways to raise achievement and standards. Our partnership involves four schools working in collaboration – Silverdale, Bents Green, City and King Ecgberts. The object is to exchange ideas and expertise and widen the range of opportunities that we can offer pupils. We are concentrating initially on raising the achievement of boys by developing the role of “peer mentors” – older students who have been specially trained to work with other pupils. So far we have worked with Year 12 and Year 9 students and during the summer term 2005 and beyond we will be working with boys currently in Year 6 and in the process of transferring to secondary school. Our way of working is to concentrate on using imaginative and dynamic methods of teaching and learning and together to use our shared expertise to find out what really works. All the staff and students involved so far have had the opportunity to participate in a residential course at the Hollowford Centre, Castleton. All the staff involved found the experience enjoyable and inspiring. Initial feedback from the young people involved suggests that they felt the same.
